Butterfly Effect Windows to the Soul

Layla Love Art Original Butterfly Effect Image in Black & White analog film

The original Butterfly Effect image is on Black & White analog film.

Butterfly Effect Series

The Butterfly Effect Series stemmed from the success of the original "Soulmates" art piece, which opened doors to the art world for Love by catapulting her serendipitously into the Black & White show, where she was exhibited alongside the most iconic artists of the last century, such as Pollock and Maplethorpe. At this show, she was introduced to a fellow artist who explained 'The Butterfly Effect', in which a seemingly small shift in direction can and will affect the future in your life or of an event.

Through the Butterfly Effect, small things can have non-linear impacts on a complex system. The concept is often portrayed as a butterfly flapping its wings in your backyard and causing a typhoon on the other side of the planet.

The Butterfly Effect Series is a study of metamorphosis and an ode to imaginal cells.

Spotlight 2023

Reflective

These unique pieces are created on a mirror so that the world around them can be reflected into the butterfly's wings.  The image is placed onto either gold, silver, or copper.  There is a creative satisfaction that comes from fusing our artwork with precious metals, allowing the images to become grounded in the sacred.   Inspired by art deco, Love has sourced materials that emulate the aesthetics of art deco.

Collaborations

Love strongly believes that it is only through collaboration that we can flourish as a species.  The current challenges we face on the world stage are because the plot has been running on competition rather than cooperation.  Working with other artists is a great honor.  It is a fusion of both ideas and frequencies, and in every case, the result is a surprise to everyone involved.  Collaborations keep you on your toes, learning new skills and talents and allowing yourself to be both inspired and humbled by the brilliance of those you get to call friends.

Color to your Space

These individual artworks celebrate the lighter, more playful side of the Butterfly Effect.  To bring bold color into your life is a statement, a willingness to entice our senses - the colors you surround yourself with absolutely affect your mood and your overall outlook.  Love made these pieces intending to use them with the bold colors of celebrations worldwide.  The pink tones illustrate the feminine elements of transformation, where one knows how to be elated and graceful.

Butterfly Effect Instillations by Layla Love0001.jpg

Showcased by Eric Franck Fine Arts at AiPAD New York, New York

This image was taken from an art showcase where Love had the honor of showcasing alongside her photographic hero, Henri Cartier-Bresson, who coined the term the decisive moment in photography, allowing us to present with the magic of a singular candid moment.

Painting with Light

Love has always enjoyed experimenting with adding movement, dimension and meaning to a 2D artwork by overlapping light mapping.

"There is nothing more beautiful in the art world for me than to paint with light, to choreograph the way it dances across the image. Each image and each installation is unique, as moving art is always morphing." - Layla Love

She has worked with top innovators in this space, such as Joshua Sophrin and Android Jones.

The Thomas Jefferson Wall

For Love's 2018 showcase RISE in Chelsea, New York, she dedicated a full room to this installation, for which she disassembled the chest into four pieces which would make up the woman's face from the Butterfly Effect series. The intention was to highlight how sometimes even things we treasure must be disassembled and rearranged to reflect the evolution of our cultural understanding.

To further emphasize our increased awareness in freedom & inclusivity, she created the Declaration of Independence on a 12 x 12 ft canvas. The only thing that she changed from the original declaration was the word "men", which she crossed out and replaced with the word "everybody" is created equal...

This is the Thomas Jefferson wall: A unique piece printed on wood, from a 200+ year old felled tree at Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson authored perhaps the most influential phrases in human history, "all men are created equal."

Expressions of the Butterfly Effect

Love has worked on this series continuously for the last 12 years drawing forth her most profound reach on the transformation spectrum.  These one-of-a-kind artworks have since been showcased with Eric Franck Fine Arts in Paris Photo, AiPAD & Basel.  Anthony Haden-Guest curated the original work Soulmates into the National Arts Club. It has since migrated around the world & has now found its way to you...
